For centuries Gage has existed only to fulfill the most intimate desires of the woman who holds his bottle. Now Gage has a wish of his own—to be a real man and a have a real life even though he knows it’s an impossible dream. This time he plans to take his bottle and break it just to see what will happen.

Paramedic Sasha Watts has seen the damage falling in love does to people and she has no intention of being another of Cupid’s victims. She accidentally frees Gage without knowing what he is. After one kiss he walks away and she never expects to see him again, but the goddess Inanna has other ideas.

As punishment for breaking his bottle she erases Gage’s memory of everything but Sasha. Only Sasha can give him the life he longs for and only Gage can be the man she’s always dreamed of, but first she’ll have to open her heart and he’ll have to finish the job Inanna gave him. If he fails, he’ll cease to exist.

Interview Time!

SKY:  What inspired you to write this book?

SHONA:  This series came from an idea of a perfect man being out there…but what if there was a catch and after time he’d go back into his bottle. Then I started thinking about the guys and if they like what they are or if they want to break free. I started thinking of all the possible ways it could play out which meant my initial novella (Boyfriend in a Bottle) suddenly had the opportunity to become a series. Temptation in a Bottle is the second and the hero is willing to do the unthinkable to get free: break his bottle and risk death.

SKY:  Did you enjoy writing one scene above all the rest? If so, share.

SHONA:  I really like writing the scene where Gage has his bottle in his hand and he’s getting ready to break it. For him it’s all come down to this. Either he has the guts to do it or he continues as he has—which he doesn’t want to do. But he knows breaking his bottle will anger his creator goddess, Inanna.

Gage raised the hand holding his bottle, the green glass almost black in the night. It had been his home for centuries. “Forgive me.”

Before he could examine his doubts, he threw the bottle up into the air. It arced and spun, sparkling in the streetlights. Inanna’s rage at being defied burned in his blood. He fisted his hand to prevent himself from reaching out for the fragile glass as it fell toward the road. His breath caught as glass hit the asphalt and shattered into a million pieces of stardust.

Light burst around him in a flash of burning white. Knives scored his skin. Pain ripped up his back and lodged in his skull like an axe. So, this was what it felt like to die. He couldn’t force a smile to celebrate his freedom.

SKY:  Tell us about your favorite writing environment. Is it indoors, outdoors, a special room, etc.

SHONA:  I have a nook off the bedroom which I claimed as mine when we moved in. While tiny (and I share it with the kids keyboard and the ironing board) it has my bookcase and desk and overlooks the garden. It’s lovely to be able to open up the side door listen to nature and have fresh air while writing. If I’m feeling stuck or unmotivated I do take my laptop elsewhere, like the kitchen table or the sitting room, as a change of scenery can really help.

SKY:  What genre/genres do you prefer to write? Are there other genres you’d like to write in the future?

SHONA:  I grew up reading fantasy novels. As an adult I discovered paranormal romance and knew that was what I wanted to write. I love writing paranormal romance as it mixes the impossible with reality and a happily ever after. I’ve just started writing sci-fi romance which is a lot of fun. My sci-fi romance series Decadent Moon is available from Ellora’s Cave (book 1, Lunar Exposure, is out now, books 2 and 3 will be out later this year)

SKY:  Do you prefer to write short stories, novellas or novels? Why?

SHONA:  I like writing all of them as they are all so different. After working on a novel it’s really nice to work on something much shorter. While short stories only capture a tiny glimpse of a world, novellas allow deeper world building and character growth but without all the complex subplots that make up a novel.

I have two previously published short stories available free on my website: http://www.shonahusk.com/freereads.html

SKY:  Do you write books in series? If so, share a bit about the series you currently have published or are coming soon.

SHONA:  I have several series available in print and ebook. My two print series are The Shadowlands which features Celtic warriors cursed to be goblins, and The Annwyn series (which is still in progress) about the fairy Court of Annwyn. I also have two erotic series with Ellora’s Cave, Sex with Strings (Vampire rock stars) and Decadent Moon (sci-fi romance). I’m planning on writing some more In a Bottle stories though as I have so much fun writing about those sexy genies ;)

SKY:  If you could make changes to a story you’ve already written, which would it be and why?

SHONA:  I think with every book I become a better writer. I think I did the best I could with the concept at the time. I’m not sure I’d want to tinker with what I’ve written though as it’s always nice to be able to look back and see how far you’ve come instead of always chasing the next goal.

SKY:  Are you currently working on another story? If so, we’d love some details.

SHONA:  I’m working on the edits for The Changeling Soldier (Annwyn 2.5) as well as the edits on To Love a King (Annwyn 3). Between the edits I’m also working on another In a Bottle novella tentatively called Lover in a Bottle. I also have my secret projects which I’m working on for my agent.

SKY:  Great interview, Shona! Thanks for joining me today.
